Puyallup Heating & Air Conditioning was started in 1946, originally known a s Puyallup Sheet Metal Works. A short time later, the business was purchased by Mr. Ed Starwhich who initially saw the opportunity of selling and installing home heating systems. At this time, the business was located on Meridian Street, near the current Parker paints building. The original company was operated by Mr. Starwich until he retired in the late 1960s. The business was purchased by Lou Jensen, Bob Corie and Ted Brockman, the sales manager of the company at that time. Lou Jensen had been an installer for Puyallup Sheet Metal for a number of years, while Mr. Corie had originally been a teacher prior to joining the business. During this time,, the name was changed to Puyallup Heating & Air Conditioning. After approximately 5 years, Lou Jensen & Bob Corie purchased Ted Brockman’s share of the business. During this time, Puyallup Heating & Air Conditioning was a major force in the residential housing market in the South Sound area. At this time, the company employed as many as 50 installers. Lou & Bob operated the business together until Bob Corie passed away late in 1990. Lou Jensen continued to operate the business himself until Jul of 1994, when he sold the business. The business was purchased by Dennis Gredvig, Chuck Rickets, Shirley Smith and Mark Waters. In 1995, Mr. Rickets sold his share of the company to the other three partners. The company operated from a building on Levy Road in Puyallup before moving to the current location on 15th street southeast.

In early 2002, the business was again sold. The current owners, Henson and Patricia Smith, purchased the business in May of 2002 and retained the name of Puyallup Heating & Air Conditioning under a separate corporation of Puyallup Home Comfort, Inc. In 2003, the Smith’s sold shares of the business to Mark Waters and Jamie Rogers, key employees of the business. Together, they continue to operate Puyallup Heating & Air Conditioning. Puyallup Heating & Air Conditioning is currently one of the oldest operating HVAC Company in Pierce County with 65 continuous years of service.
